MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The first stage of the reconstruction of the M10 highway is planned to be completed in September, the press service of the Belarusian Transport Ministry told BelTA.
Transport Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich inspected key road construction sites in Gomel Oblast. Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Ivan Krupko took part in the event. In particular, the head of the Transport Ministry familiarized himself with the progress of the reconstruction of a section of the Belarusian motorway M10 (Russian border – Gomel – Kobrin). Aleksei Lyakhnovich also visited the town of Kalinkovichi where he heard a report from the director general of the Gomel Oblast road construction enterprise Gomelobldorstroy on upcoming plans for the repair of the transit section of the R131 highway in Sovetskaya Street in the city.
It was reported that the renovated section of the M10 motorway will have four lanes and a cement concrete surface. The first stage of the reconstruction – about 17km from Rechitsa to Korovatichi – is planned to be completed in September 2026. Aleksei Lyakhnovich and Ivan Krupko discussed matters related to ensuring safety for drivers and pedestrians and instructed builders to pay special attention to creating a barrier-free environment.
While talking to reporters, the minister said that the first out of five phases of reconstruction work on the M10 motorway is currently underway. “During the opening of the bridge over the Pripyat River in Mozyr, the president set the task of completing the reconstruction of the M10 motorway by 2030. The purpose of my visit to Gomel Oblast today is to examine the progress of the work in detail and to motivate builders to complete the project on a tight schedule. It is necessary to pick up the pace,” noted Aleksei Lyakhnovich.
The head of the Transport Ministry also said that road builders have fully mastered the technology of laying cement concrete surfaces. The main task today is to move toward full-scale construction of concrete roads in the country.
The reconstruction of the bridge on the right side of the Dnieper River is an important part of the M10 reconstruction project. So far five reinforced concrete spans have been dismantled, work is underway on setting up the site and the foundation, piles are being driven, and new supports are being erected. The new bridge was originally planned to be put into operation in 2029. However, the bridge builders have assured that they will be able to complete the work and open this important transport artery of the region to traffic significantly earlier – by the end of 2027.
