Cooperation of trade unions of Belarus, Egypt to foster economic ties

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - Cooperation between the trade unions of Belarus and Egypt will contribute to the development of relations in the real sector of the economy of the two countries. Representatives of the trade union centers of Belarus and Egypt held a meeting at the headquarters of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) in Minsk on 22 July, BelTA learned from the FTUB press service.

The trade unions of the two countries have been cooperating for several years. A cooperation agreement was signed during a visit of the FTUB chairman to Egypt in 2018.

"International cooperation is always useful. It gives a new impetus to the development of every state. We study the experience of the Egyptian trade unions, they look into our best practices,” the FTUB head Mikhail Orda said. “Initially, we agreed with our colleagues from Egypt that we would focus exclusively on practice-oriented areas to make sure our cooperation benefits workers of the two countries. Today we have signed five such agreements. This is not only about the exchange of experience but also about the promotion of partnerships between enterprises. This is, to some extent, people's diplomacy. In the future, our projects can be scaled up to a government level."

Belarus and Egypt set up joint enterprises making MAZ trucks, a plant assembling MTZ tractors, and an assembly line producing Amkodor road construction machinery in Egypt. Work is underway to commission assembly lines for diesel engines of Minsk Motor Plant.

“The main goal of my visit is to strengthen and expand cooperation between our countries. The friendship between Belarus and Egypt also contributes to the economy. Belarus has highly developed manufacturing and engineering sectors, agriculture. Egypt is also keen to develop these industries. Almost all agricultural machinery used in Egypt is supplied by Belarus,” Chairman of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation Gebaly Mohamed Gebaly said.

The Egyptian delegation is set to visit the Minsk-based tractor manufacturer MTZ and the mechanical engineering company Bobruiskagromash.

The Egyptian Trade Union Federation is the largest association of trade unions in Egypt. It is a member of the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions and the Organization of African Trade Union Unity. According to Gebaly Mohamed Gebaly, the federation is ready to facilitate the establishment of ties between trade unions of other African countries and Belarus.
