MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarusian forestry enterprises have dispatched the second container train with sawn timber to China, the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry told BelTA.
Forestry enterprises are busy advancing trade relations with Chinese partners. For instance, the Forestry Ministry has dispatched the second container train with sawn timber from the Belarusian railway station of Kolyadichi to China this week. The products were made by Minsk Oblast forestry enterprises. Bellesexport Company arranged the sale.
The train comprises 44 containers carrying a total of 1,830m3 of sawn timber. The train is travelling along the New Silk Road. The Belarusian sawn timber is expected to arrive in China within 10-12 days or four times as fast as transportation by sea.
The source noted that the first train carrying sawn timber of Belarusian forestry enterprises was dispatched to China in April 2020. That train delivered 1,613m3 of the products. Both sides were satisfied with the new format of cooperation.
In the past these shipments were delivered purely by sea and via foreign mediators, which had an effect on the final cost of the products. Interaction with end buyers and the launch of delivery by container trains will allow Belarusian forestry enterprises to not only secure their position on the Chinese market but to be competitive on it.
At present Chinese partners are interested in buying edged boards of fir trees and pine trees. The possibility of shipping products made of broadleaved trees is under consideration.
Bellesexport Company intends to dispatch another train to China by the end of June. Monthly shipments of sawn timber of Belarusian forestry enterprises to China will be arranged in the future.
