MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Cooperation between Belarus and Uganda in agriculture can lead to a significant increase in food production and exports, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda during his official visit to the country on 21 February, BelTA has learned.
“We are very happy to be on the hospitable land of Uganda. We thank you for this invitation. This is indeed the pearl of Africa. I would like to convey to you the warmest greetings and wishes of good health from Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. When sending our delegation to your country, the president of Belarus set the task of reaching agreements on the ways to develop our relations, first of all in the economic sector,” Roman Golovchenko said.
In his words, Uganda Vision 2040 is a realistic and progressive development plan for the country. “We would be very happy to participate in the social and economic development of Uganda. Uganda has excellent conditions for agriculture - suitable climate and fertile soils. Belarus has less favorable conditions and challenging climate. Nevertheless, we have achieved great success in agriculture. We would like to help Uganda realize its agricultural potential. We are developing large agricultural projects with Zimbabwe. The two countries have signed a program for industrialization of Zimbabwe's agriculture. It includes supplies of agricultural machinery, application of Belarusian technologies and food processing. We believe that such cooperation in agriculture between Belarus and Uganda can lead to a significant increase in food production and exports,” the prime minister said.
The Belarusian head of government came to Uganda on an official visit on 20 February. Upon the arrival, he held talks with Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja of Uganda.
