MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – Belarus exports meat products to around 20 countries worldwide, Ksenia Meleshko, Head of the Main Directorate for Foreign Economic Activity at the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, told journalists during the Belarus Meat Industry forum in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
Ksenia Meleshko noted that Russia has always been and remains the main buyer of Belarusian meat products. “We ship beef, poultry meat, and finished meat products, which enjoy steady demand. Many Belarusian goods are available in Russian stores,” she said. “This year, we have already agreed with the Russian side on forecast supply and demand balance, enabling mutual shipments of certain meat products to both countries’ markets. Cooperation is developing.”
Belarus is also expanding its export reach: today, it covers around 20 countries. “The Chinese market is one of our key destinations. We are actively developing African markets, where we ship poultry meat. According to international estimates, the demand for poultry meat in Africa will keep growing, and we have already entered several markets with this product. For example, Africa imports 2.4 million tonnes of poultry meat per year – that is significant potential for us,” she stressed.
As for the Asian countries, the Chinese market remains the key one. “Back in 2016, we started with just meat and dairy products, but today the product range and geographic reach have expanded significantly. It is no longer just meat and milk but also confectionery, alcoholic beverages, and several other goods. We are not just sticking to standard items,” Ksenia Meleshko added.
