Sabalenka crowned Sportswoman of the Year at Laureus Awards in Madrid

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka was crowned Sportswoman of the Year at the Laureus Awards, BelTA has learned.

The world’s No. 1 ranked player received yet another well-deserved award in Madrid that is hosting the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open, a tournament she has won three times previously.

In 2025, Aryna Sabalenka won one Grand Slam tournament (the US Open), as well as the WTA-1000 events in Miami and Madrid. At the start of the current season, she again claimed victory in Miami as well as in Indian Wells.

The Laureus World Sports Awards rank among the most prestigious accolades in the sporting world. Previous winners include Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Naomi Osaka, Yelena Isinbaeva, Lindsey Vonn, and other sports stars. On the men’s side, legendary athletes such as Lionel Messi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Usain Bolt, and Armand Duplantis have received the award.
