Mutko: Belarus, Russia should coordinate policy in sports

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia should unite efforts in the issues related to the sports policy development, Minister of Sport of Russia Vitaly Mutko told a press conference following the signing of the program on cooperation in physical education and sports between the two countries for 2013-2014. The signing ceremony was held as part of the joint board of the Sport and Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Sport of Russia on 8 October, BelTA has learnt.

Vitaly Mutko believes that the Russian-Belarusian relations in physical education and sports have common roots and traditions which the present generation successfully continues. “Modern sports and physical education are priorities in the social policy of the two states. It gives additional opportunities for cooperation. Today we have strengthened our cooperation with another program. It is obvious, however, that first of all we should unite efforts in sports and political issues, coordinate our operation in the sports and political arena. Our countries are actively working on uniting efforts in the development of sport talent pool as well as in the issues related to the training process and the use of modern sports bases. It often turns out that you do not need to build this or that sports complex as your neighbors have such centers,” Vitaly Mutko stressed.

Vitaly Mutko named scientific, medical and biological, pharmacological support of the sports sector among promising cooperation areas. The Russian minister and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Shamko considered the ways to expand direct sports cooperation between the regions of the two countries. The Russian minister stated that there were a lot of reports and interesting proposals voiced during the joint board, which shows the intention of the two sides for further development of relations on a solid practical basis. The document the two parties signed on 8 October is designed to become of even bigger assistance since Russia and Belarus have a lot of sports plans in the future. “Russians and Belarusians want to win. Every year these victories are harder to take because of the constantly growing competition. We also need to exchange athlete training technologies,” Vitaly Mutko said.

Commenting on the meeting Sport and Tourism Minister of Belarus Alexander Shamko said that the ministers outlined further measures for the implementation of the interstate sports cooperation program. Among them are support of national teams, legal regulation and others.
