MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) - The international speed skating tournament Commonwealth Cup kicked off at the Minsk Arena skating stadium, BelTA learned.
It has brought together the best athletes from Belarus and Russia. The event opened with the 500m race. The leader of Team Belarus Ignat Golovatsiuk placed second with a time of 35.12 seconds, behind Russian Timur Karamov (34.94). Viktor Mushtakov from Russia rounded out the top three.
In the women's 500m, two representatives of Belarus reached the podium: Hanna Damaratskaya won silver with a time of 37.80 seconds, and Ekaterina Gagieva claimed bronze (38.46). Russia's best sprinter Darya Kachanova won the race (37.70). Next on Friday's program of the Commonwealth Cup is the 1500m race.
