MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - Polina Konrad of Belarus won two gold medals on the opening day of the international track cycling competition Tashkent Grand Prix, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian claimed victory in the omnium, a cycling discipline that combines four events. Polina Konrad accumulated a total of 165 points, surpassing Nafosat Kozieva of Uzbekistan (123) and Russia’s Maria Averina (120). Fellow Belarusians Adelina Sakun and Alina Karotkina also finished in the top ten, placing 7th and 8th respectively. In the men’s event, Daniil Mironau of Belarus narrowly missed the podium, finishing 11 points behind the bronze medalist. Artsiom Barushkou placed eighth.
Polina Konrad also delivered the best performance in the scratch race (a mass-start event), outsprinting two Russian representatives at the finish line. Alina Karotkina rounded out the top six, while Belarus’ Valeryia Stsepanets finished the race in eighth place. In the men’s event, Belarus’ Uladzislau Kauryga took second place, finishing just behind Russia’s Sergey Rostovtsev. On 7 May, the Grand Prix Tashkent will feature madison races, points races, and elimination races.
