TBILISI, 18 April (BelTA) - Belarusian judoka Yahor Varapayeu is in the top ten at the European Judo Championships Seniors 2026 in Tbilisi, Georgia, BelTA has learned.
In the men’s 90kg category, Belarusian judoka Yahor Varapayeu defeated Romanian athlete Vlad Visan and German athlete Lasse Schriever but lost to two-time Olympic champion Lasha Bekauri from Georgia in the quarterfinal. In the repechage, Yahor Varapayeu lost to the Austrian athlete Thomas Scharfetter, the winner went on to fight for bronze, while the Belarusian athlete finished in 7th place.
The European Judo Championships Seniors 2026 features 400 athletes from 46 countries. Belarus’ national team includes ten athletes. Seven of them have already finished their participation at the tournament. On the final day, 19 April, Pankrat Surba, Norau Yauheni (both 100kg), and Slaviana Rylkevich (78kg) will step onto the tatami.
