Belarusian athletes to stay in three Olympic villages at 2022 Games

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes will be accommodated in three Olympic villages at the 24th Games in Beijing, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

The first group will live in Beijing that will host speed skating, figure skating and short track competitions. Another group of athletes will stay in Zhangjiakou that will stage skiing and biathlon events. Yanqing will house the third group competing in alpine skiing.

The total area of the Winter Olympic Village in Beijing is 330,000 square meters. Athletes will stay at 20 modern residential buildings. The Olympic Village will soon have to undergo infrastructure quality checks and test coronavirus control measures. Similar complexes, but smaller in size, are located in Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.

The Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee has already reported on the high readiness of the facilities, and has also released a video of the Olympic Village where athletes will live.

Officially, the Olympic Village will open on 27 January 2022. The Olympic torch relay will begin on 2 February.

About 30 Belarusian athletes are expected to take part in the Winter Olympic Games in February 2022. Qualifying tournaments as part of the World Cup events and European championships will continue through late January 2022.

The 24th Olympic Winter Games will be held in Beijing on 4-20 February 2022.
