"On Point"
MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Several reasons could be behind the US and Israeli attack on Iran, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, Colonel (retired) Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“As I see it, there are several key reasons. I won’t frame them in academic or political science terms. I will just explain them as I understand them. The first reason is the possibility of turning Iran into a state loyal to the United States,” said Viktor Baranets. “The second reason is oil, on which Iran essentially stands. And third, there is the objective of definitively shutting down the question of Iran’s nuclear program, whether that threat is real or merely perceived.”
The expert cited another reason for the attack: the US’s desire to please Israel, which “dreams of destroying Iran as an independent state.”
