MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – The UK defense secretary’s desire to send troops to Ukraine is madness, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists of the First News TV Channel, BelTA reports.

“This is madness. This is yet another example of madness on the part of some Western politicians. Great Britain is among the world’s leading trouble-makers with their sights set on war, not on peace,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

As reported by BelTA, British Defense Secretary John Healey wrote in The Telegraph that he hopes to be the first Defense Secretary to deploy British troops to Ukraine.

The state secretary of the Security Council emphasized that it is precisely because of such politicians and their agendas that new conflicts are breaking out in various regions of the world. The result is loss of life, destroyed cities, and thousands upon thousands of refugees.

“And now the British leadership is making further statements about wanting to send troops to Ukraine. For what purpose? Will you do anything to stop the war there and bring peace, so that cities can be rebuilt and people can return to normal life? This is what we need to think about and talk about. Builders need to be sent there to rebuild what has been destroyed. Troops are absolutely not needed there. These troops will only bring more tragedies, deaths, and misfortune,” said Aleksandr Volfovich. “Therefore, this is a completely ill-considered statement that is simply perplexing.”

“The entire Ukrainian leadership has real estate far beyond the country’s borders. Why would they be concerned about their country? They can abandon it at any moment, go abroad, and live peacefully there. But what will happen to the common people? No one in the Ukrainian leadership or in the European Union is thinking about that. That’s why we hear such reckless statements today: ‘Send troops, send equipment.’ This way they can continue the war, continue lining their own pockets, without thinking about ordinary people,” he added.
