OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 7 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan have agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, BelTA learned from Director of the Uzatom agency Azim Akhmedkhadjaev during a visit to the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
“Uzbekistan considers the Belarusian experience to be one of the most advanced because the country’s leadership and the nuclear industry’s governing bodies demonstrate a special approach to implementing critical tasks and large-scale projects. That is why the concept of a 'Belarusian model' has taken shape for us, and we came here to study and understand how to properly arrange all the necessary work algorithms,” noted Azim Akhmedkhadjaev.
In his words, Uzbekistan’s goal is not to reinvent existing solutions, but to take ready-made developments and, together with Belarusian specialists, implement the highest quality project for building nuclear power plant facilities in Uzbekistan as well as the so-called Atom Town, which will embody the best solutions and approaches ensuring comfortable social and economic conditions for accommodating a large number of people, including specialists who will later work at the nuclear power plant. “Here we see unconventional solutions and approaches that can be applied in our territory as well, this is why we strive to study this experience as deeply as possible and adapt it to our realities,” he said.
As for the construction phase, work on building the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is just beginning. “The first work began literally last month, and we are smoothly transitioning to the start of general construction work. In parallel, we are preparing all the necessary documentation to obtain a license. We are moving at a fairly active pace, even ahead of schedule. I think that after studying the Belarusian experience, our work will not only accelerate but also significantly improve in quality,” the director explained.
A delegation from Uzbekistan led by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Achilbay Ramatov visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant to familiarize itself with Belarusian experience. Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich, Energy Minister Denis Moroz, and Director General of the Belarusian nuclear power plant Sergei Bobovich also took part in the visit.
