MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - In a post in his Telegram channel Polish former judge Tomasz Szmydt questioned the continued Polish-US friendship as Donald Trump takes office, BelTA learned.
“Trump was inaugurated on 20 January 2025. Many political analysts expect drastic changes in the US domestic and foreign policies after Trump comes to power. At the same time, politicians of the Law and Justice (PiS) party are full of hope and count on Trump to help them win the presidential election in Poland and eventually return to power. These vassal relations of Polish politicians are reflected in concrete actions and events,” he wrote.
Tomasz Szmydt noted that former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki (PiS) went to Trump's inauguration though no one invited him. “Security refused to let Morawiecki through, even though he showed them a Wikipedia page on his phone describing who he was. Of course, Morawiecki denied this fact later saying that he was preparing to give an interview to the press. Everyone in Poland knows about Morawiecki's ‘honesty'. So no one will believe it,” Tomasz Szmydt said.
“It will be interesting to see if this Polish-US friendship ship actually set sails,” Tomasz Szmydt noted. In his opinion, Poland's love affair with Kiev will not find favor with the Trump administration.
