BREST, 22 June (BelTA) – I am learning the true history thanks to Belarus, Polish dissident, former judge Tomasz Szmydt told reporters after the commemorative rally in Brest Fortress on 22 June, BelTA has learned.
"I'm just starting to learn the history. Thanks to the fact that I am here, in Belarus, I am learning the history that really happened. I learned what Brest Fortress is. I found out how the Great Patriotic War began. This is only thanks to Belarus, thanks to the fact that the country keeps the memory alive," Tomasz Szmydt said.
The Polish former judge said that he was born in Bialystok. "Therefore, I have very good relations with Belarusians. I know them very well, and we are together. My grandmother had very good relations with a Belarusian family literally across the fence. We went to Catholic church, they went to Orthodox church. We had friendly gatherings, and we were all together. This is how it should be, because we are Slavs, we are brothers," Tomas Szmydt said.
