Step into the art: Savitsky Gallery launches interactive exhibition

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) - A new exhibition titled To Feel has been launched at the Savitsky Art Gallery, BelTA has learned.

Unusual interactive objects help visitors trace the development of Belarusian art and the national artistic school from the post-war period to the present day. An immersive film, a Belarusian first for an exhibition, was shown at the launch to help convey the works’ atmosphere and beauty.
Galina Ladisova, Director of the Minsk City History Museum, co-organizer of the exposition, said that 108 paintings are on display at the exhibition. A multimedia space has been prepared to introduce as many people as possible to the exhibition.
“To this end, we extended the gallery’s working hours. From March 6 to 5 April, the gallery will be open from 11.00 to 20.00. Our city is huge; we made these changes to the schedule so that employees of enterprises and organizations, as well as school and university students, have a chance to explore these unique collection. The year 2026 is dedicated to the Belarusian women. Currently, together with the Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee, we are working on an exposition in the city space, in our historical center, and to select specifically female images. I hope this will find a warm response from our city residents. Throughout the entire summer music and tourism season, which lasts in Minsk from May to September, the works will be displayed in the urban space,” Galina Ladisova said. Art critic Natalya Sharangovich, First Deputy of the Belarusian Union of Artists, explained that works were selected to show the development of Belarusian art from the 1950s to the present day. “On the other hand, we didn't want to create just a historical exhibition; we decided to demonstrate how vibrant and interesting national Belarusian art is,” she noted.

Natalya Sharangovich notes that paintings contain a large number of metaphors. "In our Belarusian painting, many artists reveal their view of life through symbols. There are also works that are simpler in meaning, about Belarusian women, which simply show their beauty, convey languor, bliss, and the amazing tranquility that the female image provides. In any case, behind each work there is its own story," the expert believes.
The exhibition features works by famous Belarusian artists: Mikhail Savitsky, Anatoly Baranovsky, May Dantsig, Aleksandr Kishchenko, Vladimir Tovstik, Vitaly Tsvirko, Leonid Shchemelev, and many others.

One of the artists, Andrei Petkevich, presented his unusual work to the audience: it visually combines a fish and a sunflower. "The goldfish and the flower are associatively linked to the sun because of its golden color. Seeds mimic scales. A fish can grant a wish, but at the same time, there is an expression: be careful what you wish for; if you make it incorrectly, fate can turn a completely different side to you - this is why the fish has teeth,” he explained.

The exhibition will be on view from 6 March to 5 April 2026.
