GRODNO, 12 March (BelTA) - Economic cooperation is the main driver of growth within the Belarus-Russia Union State, Russian Consul General in Grodno Feodosiy Vladyshevsky told the media after a joint meeting of the working group on cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation in Grodno Oblast Executive Committee on 12 March, BelTA has learned.

“Today there was a very substantive discussion on many issues. As always, our Belarusian partners were quite specific. Economic cooperation is the main driver of growth within the Union State. We are determined to expand cooperation and soon we expect to welcome delegations from other Russian regions here,” Feodosiy Vladyshevsky said.

According to him, delegations from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and Kaliningrad Oblast are expected to visit Belarus. “Last year, 26 regional delegations visited Belarus, and 18 of them visited Grodno Oblast. We hope there will be more delegations this year,” Feodosiy Vladyshevsky said. “All these [visits] of delegations have a serious economic return, with contracts being concluded. We can see from the statistics that the exchange of certain commodity groups is rising. As for Grodno Oblast these are mainly agriculture, food products and industrial goods.”

“The interest is huge, because the cooperation with Grodno Oblast is broad and touches upon different sectors: humanitarian activities, culture, economy and agriculture,” Feodosiy Vladyshevsky said. Returning to the interaction between Krasnodar Krai and Grodno Oblast, he emphasized that there are a large number of areas where the regions could complement each other for mutual benefit within the framework of the Union State.

Among the documents signed today was an agreement on cooperation and development of ties between Grodno City Council of Deputies and the City Duma of Krasnodar. “This is a very significant event for the two parties. We have a shared history, we have a common Victory, the 80th anniversary of which we will celebrate on 9 May. We have such areas of work where we can carry out joint work. These are efforts to promote military and patriotic, spiritual and moral, aesthetic, and sport activities. We can accumulate experience and share best practices,” Chairwoman of the City Duma of Krasnodar Vera Galushko said.

In her words, Grodno residents have already taken part in one of the patriotic events held in Krasnodar. “I think we have already laid the foundation for the joint great effective work.”
