MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – In the documentary "In Search of Peace" aired by the Belarus 1 TV channel Press Secretary of the Belarusian President Natalya Eismont revealed which hall of the Palace of Independence housed the Belarusian headquarters and where Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was working on the night of the Normandy Four meeting, BelTA learned.
She gave an interview for the documentary in that very hall. “Few journalists came here. We do not use this hall very often. Actually, ten years ago this hall housed the Belarusian headquarters, figuratively speaking. For two days this hall was the working office of the president. Almost all the time the head of state was here. It is very convenient to reach the Green Hall, where the main negotiations took place, from here: it is literally seven meters away,” the spokeswoman said.
According to her, the president was involved in all major events whenever necessary. Obviously, he did it as tactfully as possible, understanding that he needed to organize everything properly and help everyone.
“It is clear why he was involved in all these processes. Certainly, this room and this table saw a lot of hard work. Occasionally, when the president had to make some important private calls, he went to the office, certainly. But then he came back here again. Indeed, someone came and go here all the time. The work was in full swing,” Natalya Eismont said.
She pointed out that Aleksandr Lukashenko also inquired about the organization of the work for more than 500 journalists from different countries around the world.
When asked whether the Belarusian head of state indeed didn't sleep a wink, the press secretary replied: “I will tell you more: the president stayed up for quite a long time after the main negotiations were over at the Palace of Independence."
