Over 1,000 Ukrainians enter Belarus in past 24 hours

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Over 1,000 citizens of Ukraine entered Belarus in the past 24 hours, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee of Belarus.

From 6.00 on 29 March to 6.00 on 30 March 1,027 citizens of Ukraine arrived in Belarus across the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. 119 people passed in transit through Poland, 7 - through Lithuania and 3 - through Latvia.

Belarus continues to provide the necessary assistance to people arriving from Ukrainian territory. Belarus Red Cross Society, in cooperation with the Emergencies Ministry, has deployed mobile heating points in Gomel Oblast near the village of Gden and the Poddobryanka border checkpoint. Yesterday, on 29 March, a similar point was mounted near the Novaya Guta border checkpoint. Rescuers, medical workers and Red Cross volunteers are on duty 24/7.

The State Border Committee recalled that by the decision of the head of state Belarus waived visas for foreign citizens entering from Ukraine with an aim of facilitating their return to the place of permanent residence. The visa waiver will be in force till 15 April.

Belarusian checkpoints are operating in a routine mode, the committee said.
