MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – The security services have identified the person who operated the drone launched from Lithuania to Belarus, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told the First News TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the incident with the drone that flew into Belarus from Lithuania was an attempt to ignite an interstate conflict.

"The president has set the task to conduct a detailed investigation of this incident. The facts are obvious, as we say. The trajectory of the unmanned aerial vehicle's flight has been revealed. The drone took off from the territory of Lithuania. How can this be called, if not a provocation? Instead of resolving the conflict, this is a message to incite conflict. Certainly, it was possible to create a political scandal from this, but we don’t want to quarrel with our neighbors," Aleksandr Volfovich said.

He recalled that after Belarus, the drone was sent to Poland. In other words, the provocateurs were trying to instigate a conflict between the two countries.

"The person who launched the drone has been identified on camera. The search for the operator of this unmanned aerial vehicle is underway. In other words, the work of the special services is continuing. Naturally, the Lithuanian authorities have been notified through diplomatic channels. However, I don't think we have received an answer yet. We tell them that if they want to find a solution to this problem, they need to sit down and negotiate. We need to look for smugglers in Lithuania, who can organize this process. We also need to find those who are helping them on the territory of Belarus. However, this issue cannot be solved without constructive cooperation between special services and law enforcement agencies," the state secretary stressed.

"The facts are on the table, as the president states. We can see where the balloons fall and what they carry. However, there is no specific information from the Lithuanian leadership regarding this issue. It seems that the Lithuanian political leadership does not want to resolve this conflict, as they benefit from it and need it. That's why they are inflating the situation, portraying themselves as innocent and claiming that they are defending the borders of the European Union. This is where the root cause of everything lies," Aleksandr Volfovich concluded.
