MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Legendary Belarusian teacher Tatyana Karpechenko from the village of Alexandria, Mogilev Oblast, has celebrated her 101st birthday. Many guests, including friends, family members and officials - came to wish Happy Birthday to this unique woman, BelTA reports.
The retired teacher received many wishes and heard many nice words on this day. In return she wished the visitors: “Live in peace and harmony, as this is the most important thing.”
“Yes, I had to go through a lot. However, I am a very happy person,” said Tatyana Karpechenko. Her life journey was full of hope, perseverance and resilience. She was part of the events that went down in the country’s history. She has four children, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
For four years, Tatyana Karpechenko was the class teacher of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at Alexandria School.
Tatyana Karpechenko was born in a taiga village in Vologda Oblast (on her mother's side, her roots are from Shklov District). In 1941, she graduated from a pedagogical college to become a primary school teacher. The young woman was sent to work to Arkhangelsk Oblast. She began her career as an educator at the age of 18, during the Great Patriotic War, and then devoted her entire life to teaching her favorite subject - mathematics.
The woman sadly recalls the war period when a ration card to buy 400 grams of bread and a matchbox of salt were considered luxury, and a rye flatbread could be exchanged for a theater ticket.
It was quite a fluke that she ended up in her mother's homeland, Alexandria. Tatyana Karpechenko reminisced about the twists and turns of her life, unexpected fateful meetings and her famous student, amazing and unforgettable meetings with his mother, a humble village woman.
Turning 101 years of age, Tatyana Karpechenko reminded young people about the importance of values that are passed on to the younger generation. In this unshakable continuity of generations, the foundation of everything is love for the native land, peace and kindness.
The life journey of this unique woman was described in more detail in the author's journalistic project “Women's Destinies are the Destiny of United Belarus”. The article about Tatyana Karpechenko is published on the BelTA website under the title “Twists and turns of a woman's life: Born in a taiga village, accidentally settled in Belarus, taught the president and dreams of a gift for her 100th birthday.”
