MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Latvia has extended the ban on night flights near its borders with Russia and Belarus for one week, TASS reported citing a source in the country's air traffic control service.
Previously, the flight restrictions were in effect until 7 December. The ban has been extended until 14 December in the border airspace with Belarus and Russia at altitudes up to 6km. Latvian authorities first introduced these measures in September and have been regularly updating them since then.
According to the air traffic control service, the ban applies to flights in the border airspace and will be in effect from 17:00 to 05:00 UTC (20:00 to 08:00 Minsk time).
Information about the extension has been communicated to all users of Latvian airspace, the representative added. Similar restrictions for one week have also been imposed on flights along the borders with Estonia and Lithuania. Exceptions are made for flights approved by the military authorities.
