Global Forum of University Presidents unites heads of over 110 universities

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Rector of Belarusian State University Andrei Korol is taking part in the Global Forum of University Presidents 2021 (GFUP 2021) themed Innovate for the Future: Vision and New Mission of Universities. The large-scale event kicked off on 19 April in the online and offline format and is marking the 110th anniversary of Tsinghua University (China), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian university.

The main focus of the forum is to discuss the features and prospects for the development of universities in the 21st century and to study their potential. The event has brought together the heads of more than 110 universities from Belarus, Belgium, the UK, Israel, India, Italy, China, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, the USA, Sweden and other countries.

In the Rethinking the Future and New Mission of Online Education session the rector of Belarusian State University Andrei Korol presented his report on “Distance in Education: Close or Far Away?”

The program of the forum also includes dialogue platforms on the activities of universities as cultural spaces, the contribution of university leaders to higher education institutions.

Andrei Korol is also expected to take part in the plenary session of the Global Forum on 24 April. Speakers will include Rector of Tsinghua University Qiu Yong, UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee, and the rectors of the Universities of Chicago, Tokyo, Bologna, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Australian National University, National University of Singapore, Nairobi University, Munich Technical University, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Yale University.

The event will conclude on 25 April.

Tsinghua University was founded in 1911. It is the largest and one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in China. It is located in the Haidian student district of Beijing. It got its present name in 1914. Today about 53,000 students study in Tsinghua, more than 3,200 of them are foreigners. The educational process is provided by more than 3,600 professors. The university includes 21 institutes and 59 faculties. Tsinghua University is ranked 15th in the QS rankings. The university leads in the National Ranking of Universities of China.
