PETRIKOV DISTRICT, 3 August (BelTA) – Aleksandr Veremeyev, the newly appointed Chairman of the Petrikov District Executive Committee, has never had a job outside Polesie-Agroinvest. He was director of this company at the time when he got a promotion announced by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the middle of the field on 3 August, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Veremeyev told journalists that the decision of the head of state caught him off guard. “I appreciate the president's trust in me,” he said.
Aleksandr Veremeyev worked at Polesie-Agroinvest since 1999, and went through all the steps of the career ladder within the company. He started out as a garage manager. After that he worked as a mechanical engineer, deputy chief engineer for occupational safety, chief engineer, deputy director in charge of marketing; he held a role of acting director. And more than a year ago he became head of the enterprise.
According to him, the secret behind the company’s success is simple: discipline and fulfillment of the management's orders. “We rely on our experience a lot. We work hard to fulfill the tasks that are set for us,” noted Aleksandr Veremeyev.
When asked who will take over from him, he said that this will be one of the company's employees.
The head of state set a task for other agricultural enterprises of the region to catch up with Polesie-Agroinvest. “We have a number of poorly performing farms. The task is to merge them. There are manufacturing enterprises that can support such companies by incorporating them and investing money into renovation, construction and agricultural works. We will consider merging the farms of the Belaruskali holding company, Mozyr Oil Refinery (Polesie-Agroinvest). The Presidential Property Management Directorate runs the Agro-Lyaskovichi farm that is also located in the district. By 2026, the district will have three farms engaged in agriculture,” said the new head of the district.
He emphasized that the incorporation of his company into Mozyr Oil Refinery had a positive effect on the company’s performance. Yet, the parent enterprise provided financial support only at the beginning. The company learned to operate efficiently on its own. Now its operational expenses are covered by its proceeds,” emphasized Aleksandr Veremeyev.
The new head of the district is confident that any company can achieve such results provided their teams work with dedication and commitment.
“Okay, you will assume the role of the chairman of the district executive committee on Monday. But keep in mind - this is a good farm. God forbid you ruin it. Therefore, choose carefully the one who will succeed you,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the best practices used in this farm should be scaled across the entire district. “I know his background. I studied it. This appointment did not come out of the blue. He is a local, he grew up here. A real Polesian, whom I love and respect very much. Of course, the local soil is not like the one in Grodno or Turov [in terms of fertility]. And we need to find people like that, who don't whine or cry, but make the most of what they have.”
If everything pans out, Aleksandr Veremeyev might get other promotions. The number one task for now is to finish sowing in time and in full, toughen discipline and improve performance of livestock complexes, and solve many other problems within the purview of the head of the district.
The president added that if he has a chance, he will visit Petrikov District again in the fall to assess the performance of the new chairman. “You will tell me whether you have been off to a good start in your new role. Study the personnel issue to identify people who are not fit for the job, those who want to work and those who don't. As I always say, you can't fire people left and right, even if you see that they need to be let go. You should give a person a chance. If you need my support, let me know,” the head of state said.
“He needs to grow to the level of at least Ivan Ivanovich [former Agriculture and Food Minister, and today's Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko], so that we can take him back, and he will sort things out in the region,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
