SOLIGORSK, 3 January (BelTA) - BelTA's exhibition called Belarus. Takeoff is presented as part of the Marathon of Unity campaign in Soligorsk, BelTA learned.

According to Director General of the Belarusian news agency BelTA Irina Akulovich, in every city the Belarus. Take Off exhibition highlights the examples from the life of this or that region. Soligorsk was no exception. Irina Akulovich cited the stories that were published in the local Shakter newspaper in 1992.“Let's imagine Soligorsk in 1992. People were queuing in a savings bank. They can't withdraw their deposits or get their paychecks. Journalists were present and shared what they saw: people were shouting, swearing, almost fighting. Money was lacking on a daily basis. These are the examples from our life, from Belarus in the 1990s, Soligorsk too,”Irina Akulovich noted.

Another article was dedicated to coupons to buy certain goods. "If someone lost these coupons, they could no longer buy anything. Therefore, local authorities decided to issue duplicates. But duplicates of lost coupons were issued for money," she remarked.

Irina Akulovich commented on the president’s meeting on 3 January that discussed things beyond the election campaign: "He gathered the governors and reiterated that economy should come first. With a strong economy, the country will be able to thrive and fulfill its social obligations."

According to the BelTA director general, the exhibition shows the difference between the living standards in the early 1990s and now. "We have made huge progress. We need to use our critical thinking, to understand what difficult decisions were made in our country, how hard it was for the president to start building an independent country when all the cooperation ties were disrupted," concluded Irina Akulovich.

BelTA's leading photo journalist Vitaly Pivovarchik is the author of most of the photos, which showcase the achievements of modern Belarus. According to him, the work on the exhibition took several months. “These photos from the bottom row were taken in the 1990s. I showed how our country has changed since then, taking my photos of stores, car dealerships, currency exchange offices and others as examples," Vitaly Pivovarchik said.

Roman Reshetila, a resident of Soligorsk, shared his impressions of the exhibition: “I know a lot about what is shown on the posters from my father's stories. I was just born in the 1990s. My father's memories coincide with what I see in these photos. There is a huge difference between how people lived then and how we live now."

BelTA's exhibition "Belarus. Takeoff” reflects the country's milestones over 30 years of its independence. These are 40 posters with the photos taken in the early 1990s by BELTA photographers Arkady Nikolayev, Vladimir Shuba and Aleksandr Didevich. Unique photos of the Dzerzhinsky archive of film and photo documents were also used in the exposition.
