MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian airline Belavia has operated its first evacuation flight from Dubai, the airline told BelTA.
The aircraft landed in the early hours of 4 March at Minsk National Airport. The flight brought back passengers holding tickets for 28 February. A Boeing 737-800 carried 189 passengers. The aircraft followed a route that avoided potentially dangerous areas and made a refueling stop in Aktau (Kazakhstan) due to the detour.
Family members and loved ones met the passengers at the airport.
Evacuation flights are also scheduled for 4 and 5 March, using wide-body A330-200 aircraft. The planes will depart from Minsk without passengers.
Earlier Belavia Director General Igor Cherginets said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel that an estimated 1,000 people may have been stranded in the UAE. The region is popular among Belarusian tourists, as well as transit travelers and business passengers. Belavia is working together with the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies, and tour operators.
Safety remains the company’s top priority: all routes are detoured and safe, and flights are operated only when full confidence is ensured.
