Belarusian army to adopt upgraded MLRS Uragan

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – The upgraded multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) Uragan [Hurricane] may be adopted by the Belarusian army, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The MLRS Uragan passed a live-fire test in the exercise area Osipovichsky on 9 October. The test was a success. The missiles struck the target with a high degree of precision.

The MLRS Uragan has been profoundly upgraded by companies run by the State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus. The upgraded weapon system boasts a new chassis, modern solutions for communications, navigation, data sharing, positioning, and other things.

Chief of the Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces, Major-General Gennady Kozlovsky made a few comments after the live-fire test. “The results of the modernization of the combat vehicle have justified our expectations. The upgraded MLRS Uragan is acceptable for our troops. Thanks to the new chassis it boasts an improved terrain-crossing capacity and is easier to service. It can transition from the travelling position to the combat one faster than the non-upgraded version of the MLRS,” the officer said.

Gennady Kozlovsky went on saying: “It was only a preliminary test. We are going to polish some things. State tests will be held soon. The decision on whether the Armed Forces should adopt the upgraded MLRS will be made after that.”
