MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) - The Russian-Belarusian ultra-high resolution Earth remote sensing satellite is planned to be launched into orbit in November 2028, Vladimir Karanik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said in an interview with TASS at the first Russian Space Forum.
Vladimir Karanik emphasized that the goal to create an ultra-high resolution satellite through joint efforts was a very ambitious one. Some doubted whether it could be achieved. “Now there are no doubts. The work is proceeding strictly according to schedule. We are planning to launch this satellite into orbit in November 2028. We are confident that we will succeed," he stressed.
Back in 2020, Roscosmos and Belarus’ Academy of Sciences agreed to expand their shared orbital grouping with the launch of a Russian-Belarusian spacecraft designed for high-resolution optical-electronic video surveillance.
During a meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Amur Oblast in April 2022, the presidents of Russia and Belarus made decisions to strengthen cooperation in the space sector. Specifically, the presidents discussed the creation of a joint Russian-Belarusian orbital grouping of high‑detail observation satellites. Agreements were also reached on allowing Belarusian companies to take part in construction work at Vostochny and on a flight to the International Space Station of a Belarusian representative as part of a Russian crew.
