MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Belarus has prepared the eighth national report on fulfilling the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, BelTA has learned from the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor).
The document was put together by Gosatomnadzor in association with interested government agencies.
"The eighth report describes Belarus's efforts to ensure safety in radioactive waste and spent nuclear material management in terms of the challenges highlighted for the country at the seventh review meeting of the contracting parties," the department said.
In line with the IAEA procedure the parties to the Convention are supposed to prepare national reports on executing the Convention every three years and post them on the Joint Convention's website for review and consideration by the contracting parties.
