Units of 62nd Air Defense Missile Regiment make 180km march as part of Belarusian army’s inspection

BREST OBLAST, 11 March (BelTA) – Servicemen of the 62nd Air Defense Missile Regiment carried out a 180km march as part of the surprise inspection of the combat readiness of the Armed Forces, BelTA has learned.

The signal for the combat readiness inspection upon instructions from the president of Belarus was received by the 62nd Air Defense Missile Regiment on 9 March. Part of the military unit’s forces and assets began to carry out the assigned task. One of the batteries marched to the designated area. It took up combat duty in the morning of 11 March. The battery’s tasks are to cover the state border in the airspace and prevent acts of air terrorism.
“The battery and a support unit marched for 183km on 10 March, occupied the designated area, completed deployment and took up combat duty. On the march ‘sabotage and reconnaissance groups’ were actively involved, including reconnaissance by unmanned aerial vehicles. Countermeasures were implemented. It was not easy, but the task was successfully accomplished: the attacks were repelled,” said Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the 62nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment Fyodor Sinyavkin.
The signal for the inspection did not take the servicemen by surprise. “The ongoing inspection is no different from the usual transition of the battery to combat duty. We are doing everything we normally do,” assured Maksim Lagun, commander of an Osa air defense missile battery. “Our mission is to deploy to any area of Belarus and carry out the tasks assigned to us to detect and destroy airborne enemies. We mainly carry out our tasks near the Belarusian border. At present the main task is to combat UAVs and the Osa complex has shown that it is capable of engaging such targets quite efficiently.”
During the inspection servicemen of the 62nd Air Defense Missile Regiment will have to perform a number of combat training tasks. They are related to the prevention of violations of the state border in the airspace. All actions are evaluated by an inspection group from the State Secretariat of the Security Council.

“From the moment the order was received, the regiment commander made a timely decision and instructed the battery commander to carry out the combat training task. The personnel showed confidence in their actions, made the march in a timely manner, occupied the designated area, and have been on combat duty for air defense since 9:00 on 11 March. The conditions are close to combat conditions. In terms of the inspection tasks, they are going to perform some pretty unusual and new tasks,” said Aleksandr Bezobrazov, a representative of the inspection team from the State Secretariat of the Security Council.
First and foremost, the condition of equipment and weapons is being inspected as well as the ability of the personnel to operate the equipment entrusted to them. Attention is being paid to the ability of commanders to manage subordinate units.
