MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The First Lady of the United States of America Melania Trump has asked Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to talk to the Russian leader Vladimir Putin about Ukrainian kids, who had been lost in Russia. The Belarusian head of state mentioned it while talking to reporters about results of the negotiations with a U.S. delegation led by U.S. Special Envoy John Coale the day before, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Melania has passed me a list of kids, who are allegedly lost in Russia as a result of the war in Ukraine. And she asks me to give the list to Vladimir Putin when I meet with him, to talk to him in order for us to find these kids in Russia. Most likely they have fled the war. She wants us to find them and hand them over to Ukraine if the kids are ready and if Ukraine is ready to take care of them. It is not as simple as giving kids to Zelensky. He doesn’t care about these kids. If he had cared, he would have ended this war a long time ago.”
The president said he had agreed to fulfill the request but he had warned that he would not try to convince Putin to do it: “If Melania asks me (in furtherance of the letter about kids that she handed over to Putin at some point), then I will convey this position to the big brother. It is not a problem. But I will not fight for it because I don’t know whether these kids exist or not, whether it is true or not and who handed over these lists. It is not complicated for me. I’ll pass it on and we will talk about this topic.”
