MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - Cooperation between Belarus and Serbia is based on the principles of mutual understanding, mutual assistance and friendship, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said during a meeting with a Serbian parliamentary delegation, BelTA has learned.
"We are very happy to welcome such a representative delegation of the Serbian Parliament. Your visit is evidence of the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation for the Belarusian-Serbian relations. They are based on the principles of mutual understanding, mutual assistance, friendship and, most importantly, on a high level of trust between the leaders of our states, between our presidents," Igor Sergeyenko said.
The delegation includes Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Jovan Janjic, deputies from various political parties, eight of whom are members of the friendship group with Belarus, as well as representatives of Serbian business and clergy. All in all, the delegation consists of more than 30 people. The parties are set to discuss topical issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation and prospects for building up mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
"We are meeting in the run-up to a significant event for our countries - the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Serbia. Over the years, Serbia has become a key partner for Belarus in the Balkans. The countries maintain an active dialogue both at the interdepartmental level and the parliaments," Igor Sergeyenko stressed.

MPs of Belarus and Serbia keep in regular touch. On 9 September 2024, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov met with Serbian parliamentary delegation led by Jovan Janjic in the House of Representatives. During the meeting an agreement was reached to intensify the activities of parliamentary friendship groups.
