Opinion: Lukashenko is a strong European statesman who knows how to protect his people

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – While the West introduces even more sanctions against Belarus and, by doing so, poisons the diplomatic climate even more, Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked calm, the news agency News Front quoted the German geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel as saying.

Patrick Poppel pointed out that Western mass media describe Aleksandr Lukashenko as Europe's last dictator, but it might be a good idea to take an objective look at the current situation in Belarus and his actions. “Right now Belarus is in a situation where Ukraine was several years ago. Western countries are trying to exert influence to make the country side with them. All kinds of dirty strategies are used for it,” the expert stressed.

As a statesman Aleksandr Lukashenko has to protect his people and interests of the state from these influences. He acts in the interests of the people even in debates about refugees. “Why does he have to keep in Belarus the refugees, who lost their homes in Afghanistan, North Africa or the Middle East due to Western interference?” Patrick Poppel wondered.

The expert stressed that it was not Belarusian fighter jets that destroyed the existing state systems and infrastructure, thus ruining the livelihood of many people. All these interventions came from the West.

“Lukashenko knows that mass migration brings only social problems and crimes, this is why he definitely acts in the interests of his people in this regard. The West fails to understand it because such politicians have been in short supply in Europe for many years already,” Patrick Poppel pointed out.

The prominent Russian political analyst Sergei Mikheyev made a number of similar remarks on the air of the radio station Vesti FM. He believes that leaders of other countries should follow the example of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko because he trades blows fast and thinks about his people.
