Tomasz Szmydt talks about how he sees his future

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – I would like to have such an opportunity and stay in Belarus and work here, the Polish dissident, judge Tomasz Szmydt said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

"I would like to work on the normalization of relations between Belarus and Poland. It must be said that relations between ordinary people - Belarusians and Poles are normal. But politicians [of Poland] see these relations differently," Tomasz Szmydt said.

When asked about his possible participation in Polish politics in the future, the judge noted that this is much more complicated. "Crossing the Belarusian-Polish border can lead to unpleasant consequences for me," the Polish judge believes.

Speaking about relations between Minsk and Warsaw, Tomasz Schmidt expressed confidence that neighboring countries should live in peace. "We need to work towards this. We must live in peace, in harmony," he concluded.

Tomasz Szmydt is a judge of the 2nd Department of the Voivodeship Administrative Court in Warsaw. Previously, he held various positions in the judicial system and justice bodies of Poland. He was the head of the legal department at the National Council of Judges of Poland.

Due to his disagreement with the policies and actions by the authorities, he was forced to leave Poland and is currently in Belarus. He was persecuted and threatened for his independent political position.
