MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – The BRICS Games 2024 will feature competitions in 29 sports in 18 venues, RIA Novosti informs.
The BRICS Games official ceremony is due on 12 June, its closing ceremony is slated for 23 June.
The games will feature more than 5,000 athletes from over 60 countries, including ten BRICS member states. The program of this large-scale multi-sport festival will include more than 380 medal events.
“The competitions will be held in 29 sports in 18 venues. The sports are boxing, breakdancing, beach volleyball, beach handball, canoe sprint, rowing, judo, karate, koresh belt wrestling, belt wrestling, athletics, table tennis, swimming, diving, sambo, artistic swimming, wrestling, artistic gymnastics, tennis, wushu, fencing, basketball double event, football double event, rhythmic gymnastics, chess, weightlifting, badminton, equestrian sports, acrobatic rock’n’roll,” Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov said.
In his words, despite external pressure, a big number of countries are showing interest in the BRICS Games.
“The first batch of tickets for the BRICS Games went on sale on 23 April. We have some experience in implementing sport programs, but it is the first time in my practice that there was such a huge interest a month before the Games. We also see the geography of sales with Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod being in the lead. We are also selling tickets abroad, mostly to the CIS countries. About 20,000 out of 100,000 tickets have been sold so far,” the minister added.
