Belarus, Russia discuss mutual support in UN elections

MOSCOW, 8 May (BelTA) -  The Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Russia discussed mutual support in the elections to the UN bodies, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following a meeting between the head of the Main Directorate of Multilateral Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Irina Velichko and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin in Moscow on 7 May, BelTA has learned. 

"The parties touched upon a wide range of issues on the international agenda and looked into ways of strengthening the cooperation between the two countries at the UN platforms and within the framework of the OSCE humanitarian dimension," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Considerable attention was paid to the further development of cooperation within the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. Mutual support in the elections to UN bodies, including the UN Human Rights Council, was also discussed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
