MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – An observation mission representing the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has started monitoring a nationwide referendum on amending and expanding Belarus' Constitution, BelTA has learned.
Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko presented accreditation papers to representatives of the CIS observation mission.
It will be the 11th time that the CIS observers perform observation functions in Belarus.
On 20 January Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree to schedule a nationwide referendum for 27 February. Belarusians will also be able to cast their votes for or against amendments and addenda to the Constitution early on 22-26 February.

The decree contains the wording of the referendum question, which is reproduced verbatim in the voting ballot: “Do you accept the amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”
