Belarusian Parliament plans to sit once a year

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) - The Belarusian parliament plans to switch to the one session per year work mode. Plans are in place to incorporate this provision in the new Constitution of Belarus, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova told reporters following the meeting of the head of state with the working group on the draft Basic Law, BelTA has learned.

Both houses of the National Assembly now sit two times a year. One session opens on 2 October and lasts for not more than 80 days. The second session opens on 2 April and lasts for not more than 90 days.

"We have proposed one session. We work almost the entire year: the session will open on the third Tuesday of September and finish in June. Thus for almost a year the parliament will be working on bills that are very important for our country," Natalya Kochanova said.
