Belarus’ representative: OSCE is experiencing deepest crisis

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The OSCE is experiencing a serious crisis, the Belarusian delegation to the OSCE Permanent Council said in a statement issued in connection with U.S. President Donald Trump's initiative to establish the Board of Peace, the Belarusian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s press service told BelTA.

“Our organization, created as a space for equal dialogue and consensus, is today experiencing a deepest crisis. The use of majority opinion to advance narrow political interests, the substitution of cooperation with confrontation, and the loss of a culture of compromise – all of this seriously undermines trust in the OSCE as a universal security mechanism,” Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the OSCE Andrei Dapkiunas said.

“The initiative to establish the Board of Peace is an attempt to restore the lost trust, respect, and ability to negotiate in international relations,” the Belarusian side stated.

“President Trump’s initiative is an invaluable signal for the OSCE: either the participating states, divided by a chasm of misunderstanding and hostility, will still be able to responsibly use OSCE mechanisms for equal and respectful dialogue, or the organization will simply fade into oblivion,” Andrei Dapkiunas said.
