Belarus-Russia Union's first prize for science and technology possible in 2019

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – The first prize of the Union State of Belarus and Russia for accomplishments in the area of science and technology may be awarded in 2019. State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota made the statement before the festive concert due in the Palace of the Republic on 2 April to mark the Day of Unity of Peoples of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the heads of state have given instructions to work out and approve the regulation on the relevant prize. “If things go as planned, we will be able to bestow the first prize in 2019,” said Grigory Rapota.

The official remarked that an information security program Paritet will be adopted soon. “The concept of the program has already been passed. All the approval steps have been done. A number of proposals in the sphere of healthcare, space exploration, creation of new materials, geological surveying and research and many other things are in the pipeline. All of them are under consideration now. The science and technology council, which we've recently created, is about to get involved in this work. It includes experts from various branches of science and technology,” said State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota.

The official congratulated those present on the holiday dedicated to the calm, kind, systemic, and consistent enhancement of relations between the two countries.

In turn, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich remarked that interpersonal relations between Belarus and Russia are somewhat ahead of the rest, including trade and economic ones. “We have no fundamental differences of opinion at the personal level, at the level of day-to-day communication. This is why I think that the relevant regulators will catch up,” he added.
