MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The Belarus president’s team claimed its second victory in the Republican Hockey League (RHL), BelTA has learned.
On 17 January, the head of state’s team defeated the Gomel Oblast team, 12-2 (4-0, 4-1, 4-1), at the Olympic Arena in Minsk.
The Gomel Oblast team came into the match as leaders of the tournament, having won three of their previous four games and lost only once. However, today they were unable to continue their winning run. Within the first 10 minutes, the home team scored four times, with goals from Nikita Drozdov, Maksim Parfeyevets, Pavel Volchek, and Yaroslav Chupris. In the second period, the president’s team kept up the pressure, adding four more goals through Aleksei Shantyka, Nikolai Lukashenko, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Ilya Shinkevich, while Gomel Oblast responded with a goal from Maksim Zakharov. In the final third, Artyom Karkotsky scored twice for the winners, while Ilya Shinkevich and Pavel Volchek each added another goal. Mikhail Prus netted one for the visitors.
The best players of the match were named Ilya Shinkevich and Artyom Zhukevich.
In the opening game of the new season, the president’s team defeated the Mogilev Oblast team 9-3, then drew 5-5 with the Brest Oblast team.
Last season, the president’s team won the event for the 16th time, defeating the team from Minsk Oblast in the finals. The teams from Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast each have one title.
The amateur ice hockey tournament is organized by the Presidential Sports Club, the Sport and Tourism Ministry, and the Minsk City Hall.
