Voter turnout on single voting day in Belarus at 73.09% according to latest update

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Preliminary data concerning voter turnout on the single voting day was clarified during a press conference held in the information center of Belarus’ Central Election Commission (CEC), BelTA has learned.

CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said: “Preliminary data concerning voter turnout on the single voting day has been updated. There were 6,912,221 voters on the lists. As many as 73.09% cast their votes.” Voter turnout stood at 75.82% in Brest Oblast, 75.63% in Vitebsk Oblast, 75.85% in Gomel Oblast, 76.90% in Grodno Oblast, 74.20% in Minsk Oblast, 77.03% in Mogilev Oblast, and 61.54% in the city of Minsk.

The official noted that according to preliminary results of the elections, all the 1,284 local councils of deputies have been formed, including six oblast ones and the Minsk city one, 118 district ones, 10 urban councils in oblast-subordination towns, 14 urban councils in district-subordination towns, 8 town councils, and 1,127 rural councils.

Igor Karpenko went on saying: “According to article 92 of the Electoral Code information about results of elections to local councils of deputies and lists of elected deputies are supposed to be published in printed mass media and on websites of the relevant district administrations on the fifth day after the single voting day at the latest. Preliminary figures concerning results of elections to the House of Representatives and local councils will be published at 14:00 today.”
