Tut.by deprived of mass media status

MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – Tut.by has been deprived of the mass media status, BelTA learned from the Economic Court of Minsk.

The main court hearing took place in the Economic Court of Minsk on 3 December. It considered the lawsuit of the Information Ministry to the TUT BY MEDIA company. “The court decided in favor of the Information Ministry”, the court informed.

Earlier, the Economic Court of Minsk suspended the trial till the Supreme Court studied the company's complaint over the Information Ministry's warnings concerning certain materials that the ministry found misleading and detrimental to state and public interests.

On 12 November, the Supreme Court found that two letters of warning issued to the TUT BY MEDIA limited liability company, the owner of the internet edition tut.by, about the violation of the law on mass media were justified. One warning was recognized as invalid.

The Information Ministry reported earlier, the letters of warning were issued to TUT BY MEDIA in connection with the violation of the law on mass media by the tut.by internet edition.

It is important to understand that, in accordance with p.p.2.2 of Article 51 of the law on mass media the national mass media authority can file a suit to close down a media outlet in the event the legal entity that functions as a media editorial office or the founder of the media outlet is issued two or more letters of warning within a year.
