Sergeyenko: The war echoes in every Belarusian family with pain, suffering and joy of the Victory

MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) - The war echoes in every Belarusian family with pain, suffering and joy of the Victory, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he took part in a flower and wreath ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk on 9 May, BelTA has learned.

“The memory of the war is in the heart of every Belarusian. This memory is immortalized in such monuments, works of literature and art, in the memory of every family, so it is impossible to forget, to betray. In every Belarusian family the war is echoed with pain, suffering, and joy of the Victory. I have three military orders and a medal for bravery of my father, which, of course, my family will keep forever,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

“80 years ago there was the same bright day, mood, everyone was jubilant, soldiers were shooting in the air, realizing that the bloody war was over. But nevertheless, even after the war, people continued to die. And the worst thing is that 80 years later the world is still turbulent. The fact that they are trying to rewrite the pages of the war, distort the feat of the Soviet soldier is pure blasphemy, it cannot be called otherwise.”

“Therefore, to those demolitions of monuments (according to some data, Europe has taken down more than 3,500 monuments) we respond with our memory, which will remain for centuries in our hearts,” Igor Sergeyenko added. “The victory was won by the multinational Soviet people, and we emphasize this. Because without that monolithic unity, perhaps, there would not have been that victory. We did not divide it into Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs and so on. The united people won the Victory both at the front and in the rear.”
