MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Saint Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov thanked Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko for the warm welcome and noted that he was impressed by the Palace of Independence and its interiors which feature a lot of Belarusian national themes, BelTA has learned.
"I was very impressed by how much you appreciate your history. The banners, the awards of the Soviet Union that the republic was honored with... They are not kept in some museum storerooms but are displayed here, in the main hall [the banners symbolizing the special merits of the BSSR in the Hall of Solemn Ceremonies]. On the opposite there is another national treasure, going back to its ancient history [the Slutsk sash made according to the ancient technologies]. This is very impressive," the governor of Saint Petersburg shared his impressions.
He also expressed gratitude to the leaders of Belarus and Russia for their courage and perseverance in defending the historical values. "This unites millions and millions of people around you, not only in our countries, but all over the world," Alexander Beglov said.
According to him, Saint Petersburg is doing everything to develop close relations with Belarus.
