Opinion: Belarusian People's Congress is a form of candid discussion

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Dialogue platforms in Minsk Oblast focus on relations between business and the government, economy and regional development, rather than political and constitutional issues, Ph.D. in History, Dean of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Faculty of Belarusian State University Vadim Gigin told reporters at a regional dialogue platform to discuss topical issues of the national and regional development that took place in Cherven on 26 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.

“A vigorous debate is taking place at dialogue platforms, therefore it is important that the draft program of Belarus' socio-economic development takes on board the proposals that were put forward by citizens before. Discussions at all dialogue platforms are region-specific. Dialogue platforms in Minsk Oblast focus on relations between business and the government, economy and balanced regional development, rather than political and constitutional matters, because one of the outstanding issues here is that agricultural employment tends to decline with urbanization – this problem needs to be addressed,” Vadim Gigin said.

“This dialogue is inclusive. Nobody limits anyone. This suggests that our political system is evolving. I think that this form of communication between the government, political parties, public associations and the public should not be scrapped after the Belarusian People's Congress. After all, the Belarusian People's Congress is not only a forum, but also a form of public activity, which is now high. It should be promoted. It is necessary to preserve the atmosphere of candid discussion when ministers and governors reach out to the general public, learn about the things that concern them, and try to resolve existing problems.

The dialogue platform in Cherven discussed the development of the social sphere in the next few years. “Top on the agenda of the discussion was support for families with many kids, healthcare and education, and housing construction in the region. We will deal with the issues that were raised at the dialogue platform,” Igor Yevseyev, Aide to the President -Inspector for Minsk Oblast said.

The most pressing issues that the participants of the dialogue platform discussed in Cherven will be considered at the Belarusian People's Congress.
