MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) - The West does not like the independence of Belarus and its desire to protect its interests, Peggio Matteo, an international observer from Italy, told the media, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus is a crossroads of Europe and Eurasia. Belarus is a sovereign state and protects its interests. This is a great rarity in Europe,” the Italian observer emphasized. “Virtually no country in Europe can decide anything on its own - without the approval of the United States. In fact, Europe, the same as the European Union, does not represent its own interests, but those of the United States.”
“It is impermissible from their point of view that there is such a strong country as Belarus, such a strong leadership of this country,” he said.
According to the Italian observer, the election campaign in Belarus is peaceful and calm: “Every citizen will choose the candidate he or she considers the right one. This violates the Western propaganda and lies,” he added.
