MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Egypt intend to establish a business council under their chambers of commerce, Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Yelena Malinovskaya said during the Belarusian‑Egyptian business forum in Minsk on 7 May, BelTA has learned.
Egypt is one of Belarus’ most important trading partners not only on the African continent but overall. “The strong momentum in trade and economic cooperation between our countries have been consistently stable. Bilateral trade remains at around $150 million a year. In addition to the regional domestic market, Belarusian businesses view Egypt as one of the most effective entry points for securing a foothold in Africa,” the chairperson noted.
The BelCCI pays special attention to expanding trade and economic relations between Belarus and Egypt. “The BelCCI and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce have had a cooperation agreement in place for many years. Over this period, we have organized more than 100 joint events. The first major joint business forum was held in Cairo in 2016. And already in 2017, the ceremony to open the Belarusian‑Egyptian business forum was attended in person by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. At that time, the [Belarusian] head of state clearly emphasized that shared political views and the political will of both countries are the foundation for significant development and purposeful partnership across various fields,” Yelena Malinovskaya said.
Belarus highly values its active cooperation with Egyptian partners aimed at creating the most favorable conditions for developing bilateral business ties, she added.
During the current visitn of an Egyptian delegation, a preliminary agreement was reached to establish a Belarusian-Egyptian business council under the BelCCI and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce. “I am confident that this will become a highly effective platform for discussing opportunities to develop joint Belarusian-Egyptian projects,” Yelena Malinovskaya said.
Around 150 representatives of Belarusian and Egyptian businesses are taking part in the forum. They gathered in Minsk to present their products and discuss the implementation of joint projects.
The delegation of the Arab Republic of Egypt headed by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid Saleh is visiting Belarus from 4 to 8 May.
