GOMEL, 7 May (BelTA) – High goals, a drive for development, and the reliable support of like-minded people are the key conditions for success for those who are ambitious, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said during the plenary session of the Second Youth Military-Patriotic Forum in Gomel, highlighting the significance of the event, BelTA has learned.
Viktor Khrenin expressed confidence that the forum brought together young men and women with passionate hearts and clear life goals. “The desire to make our country better – the very foundation of these life principles – was laid by our heroic ancestors who gave us the Great Victory. It is you who must carry and protect the memory of the victors’ heroic legacy for years to come,” he noted.
The defense minister emphasized that there are forces in the world today that are unsettled by the Victory, the heroic history, and the very existence of a free and independent Belarus. “The freedom and independence won during the Great Patriotic War, preserved and enhanced by many subsequent generations, provoke envy and irritation among Western politicians. This is why they are attempting to destroy it, starting with the rewriting of history, primarily the history of the Great Patriotic War. Preventing this means protecting our country. This is our common task, and we can only achieve it if we stand united. National unity, selfless love, and devotion to the homeland allowed our grandfathers and great-grandfathers to preserve our native land during the hard years of war. For us, this is a vital lesson and the greatest example to follow,” he said.
According to Viktor Khrenin, the military-patriotic forum brings together young people driven by a desire to make their country strong and prosperous – those for whom the concepts of service to the Motherland and defense of the Fatherland have become lifelong priorities from an early age.
The defense minister expressed confidence that participating in the military-patriotic forum will be both informative and beneficial for everyone. “Undoubtedly, you will gain new knowledge and impressions, make interesting acquaintances, and connect with like-minded people. All of this will serve you well in the future. After all, high goals, a drive for development, and the reliable support of like-minded people are the key conditions for success for those who are ambitious,” he said.
The forum brought together more than 300 participants from all regions of the country. The theme of the plenary session is “Patriotic education of youth – the foundation of state independence”. The event provided an opportunity for young people to meet with heads of government agencies.
The forum was initiated by the Council of the Republic. The first forum took place in Minsk in December 2025. The event brings together hundreds of young people, including members of military-patriotic clubs and organizations actively involved in fostering patriotism.
